Caregivers are often juggling multiple priorities and cannot always drive the person they are caring for to appointments or services. Did you know that there may be transportation options for you/the person you are caring for? These may include: public transportation, mobility buses, accessible vehicles or volunteer drivers. You may be eligible to receive a disability parking permit, or funding to purchase/modify your own vehicle.

A Caregiver's Perspective

As a caregiver with a full-time job, there were times where I could not get Dad to his medical appointments. I would often have to take an unpaid sick day to drive him to an out of town specialist. Being connected with transportation services allowed me to fulfill my work commitments while ensuring my dad was still able to get to his appointments.

Tips for Caregivers by Caregivers

• If there are times the person you are caring for needs assistance to get to an appointment – there are resources that can help.

• Do not be afraid to ask about transportation options. If you see someone using transportation you are interested in, ask them their perspective about it. Most people are happy to chat about their experience using a service.
